About This Blog
Welcome to Digital Paint Spot, where
you’ll find tips and techniques to enjoy digital painting in a traditional style.
The emphasis is always on enjoying the process of painting on a computer, because that's where I'm coming from. My name is Bob Kruschwitz and I'm an amateur painter in the original sense of that word (and I hope I always will be). That is. I paint for the love of it.
In this blog you'll meet some of the artists, digital and traditional, who have inspired me along the way and taught me so much—through conversations with them, reading their books and blogs, and studying their paintings.
My formal training is in philosophy. Since retiring from university teaching, I have more time to do some other things I love, such as hiking in the mountains, playing disc golf, photographing wildflowers, reading mystery novels, and (you guessed it) painting on the computer.
For many years I painted with traditional watercolors, but as my professional responsibilities increased, I had less and less time to set up and take down my easel and workspace. A few years ago my artist friend Joel Edwards urged me to try digital painting, for in less than a minute I could be set up and ready to paint!
I've tried several art software programs, but now I use Rebelle software almost exclusively because it allows me to emulate and extend traditional watercolor techniques. I also use it to experiment with and incorporate (the digital counterparts to) other traditional media.
My goals for this blog include:

My goals for this blog include:
- sharing the materials (e.g., brushes, textures, and papers) I create for Rebelle
- displaying some of my artwork
- reflecting on what I paint and why I paint it on the computer
- offering some tips and techniques for traditional-style painting on the computer, and
- introducing some of the artists who have inspired me.
